Today Is The Last Day To Enter The PragueCrunch III Pitch-Off

PragueCrunch III is already sold out and I’m getting ready to pick startups for our pitch-off next Thursday. That means you have less than 12 hours to submit your startup to the fray. You’re going to want to be part of this. If we release more tickets, I’ll let you know in a post tomorrow or via my Twitter account. I’m not in charge of the venue so I don’t know if we’ll have room for extra attendees. That said, those of you who got free tickets are extremely lucky – the entire event will be catered with a nice open bar thanks to our sponsors and our organizer, Jack Deneut. The event will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2014 from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM (PDT) at Hergetova cihelna (2b Cihelná) and we’ll have free beer and wine as well as catered food all night. We’ll be holding a startup pitch off – each founder will pitch for 90 seconds and there will be eight startups on stage – and the winner gets a free table in Startup Alley at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco or London and one runner-up gets two tickets to TechCrunch Disrupt in SF or London. Susa Ventures Raises A $25M Seed Fund To Back Data-Focused Startups

Early-stage firm Susa Ventures says it has raised $25 million to fund “data-centric founders and businesses.” Susa has four operating partners — Eva Ho (previously vice president of marketing and operations at location data company Factual, and before that a senior product marketing manager at Google and YouTube), Leo Polovets (an early engineer at LinkedIn), Chad Byers (formerly senior director of platform at and Seth Berman (an angel investor and former marketer at The Richemont Group). In a blog post announcing their new fund, the partners wrote: We started Susa as four friends with the shared belief that despite the hype, despite the multitude of companies being formed, despite the hilarious acronyms, the data revolution is under appreciated. We have barely scratched the surface on how a focus on leveraging data to make critical business decisions, automate processes, and inform new product creation will disrupt incumbents and create new industries. The post goes on to point to health, banking/finance, and education as some of the fields were the firm sees big opportunities for these data-centric approaches. In fact, Susa says that it has already made 17 investments, including Zephyr Health, Namo Media (recently acquired by Twitter), Whisper, and Frontback. ConnecTV Acquires TweetTV To Add Real-Time Analytics To Its Social TV Platform

Both Twitter and Facebook are vying for pole position as the platform of choice for social TV engagement — the place where viewers go to quip about TV shows in real time – but there are movements among pure-play startups to build up their positions, too. In the latest of these, ConnecTV is buying TweetTV to add more analytics features to a network that already lets people watch, create and share six-second video clips of TV shows with others via an iOS app. A clip looks a bit like this: At the same time, ConnecTV is launching a new service called ClipADS, which it will sell to brands and agencies as a platform for making and distributing short video ads across social media sites that link to more product information, longer videos and so on. These will run within ConnecTV’s own stream, as well as on other platforms. The terms of the TweetTV deal have not been disclosed. Saint Laurent 2015 Spring/Summer Collection

Hedi Slimane looked to the worlds of Rock ‘n Roll and Westerns for Saint Laurent‘s 2015 spring/summer collection. Looking like cowboy punk rockers, the models walked down the runway in a selection of ponchos, fringed tops, leather jackets and the like, many accented by regal touches of gold. A grunge influence was also clearly on show with the horizontal striped tees which were layered under many of the jackets. The palette stuck largely to black and darker shades with the aforementioned gold touches and flashes of brightness from the patterned tops and accessories.
